VINTAGE REPORT | HARVEST 2017

The vintage 2017 was a pretty dry year with strong anomalies throughout the growing season. Nebbiolo is a strong varietal that appreciates water stress; in particular in our Lazzarito vineyard between 360 and 380 meters of altitude-we managed to obtain phenolic maturity and excellent qualities. From the expression of our 2017 reserve, we can say that for us it was a tough, but excellent year specially having such an intense crisp fruit within the wine's bouquet and taste.Mild winter with good water supplies

  • March has been a very hot month and it caused the vegetative restart to be much earlier which made the plant organs very sensitive to the return of cold temperatures at the end of April accompanied by gusts of arctic wind from the Po Valley (frost 19th-21st April). Suffering from thermal shock with uneven development

  • May: from the third decade the rain decreased and one of the driest periods in recent years began. High temperatures and little rainfall caused many difficulties to the vegetative-production. (May-September: 47 days of maximum temperature above 35°C)

  • Towards the end of June some minor thunderstorms. Shortened phenological cycle with first lignifications at the end of June

  • August-October: the scarce rainfall no longer compensated for the serious water deficit now accentuated also by temperatures well above the seasonal averages

  • Nebbiolo presented accumulation deficits due to the blockage of photosynthetic activity corresponding to water stress. Phenolic and technological maturity hand in hand

WINEMAKERS' NOTE: The eastern exposure has protected our vineyard from both frosts and severe drought. However, the harvest was greatly anticipated.
